Laminates Vs. Veneers

There are pros and cons associated with veneers as well as with laminates. Consider all your options before you decide what’s best for you.

Laminates are lighter than and not as durable as veneers. Laminates can improve tooth whiteness but they aren’t appropriate for dental repairs. In addition, laminates require less enamel to be removed so there’s less alteration to the shape of the tooth. In the end, laminates are a better choice for long-term tooth health.

Veneers are recommended to repair minor damage or improve the appearance of tooth stains or discoloration. They’re also a good choice for correcting:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Discolored teeth

Because veneers are thicker than laminates, tooth reshaping and enamel removal are needed to reduce “bulk.” Veneers come in porcelain or composite resin options.

Porcelain veneers usually last longer, resist staining, and tend to be stronger and more durable. Porcelain veneers typically require two dental visits.

Composite resin veneers can be completed in one visit. This option preserves more of the patient’s tooth enamel and tends to cost less than porcelain; however, composite resin is more prone to breakage.

Benefits of Veneers

When you choose to have veneers applied to your teeth, the most obvious benefit is that the appearance of your smile will be enhanced. The lift that this gives to your confidence, mental and emotional well-being, and daily life can’t be measured or expressed in words. It’s something you feel within yourself and live out every day. We’re pleased and proud to help you achieve that. Contact us to learn more about the veneer procedure.

Follow-Up and Maintenance

Once your veneers have been applied, we’ll go over the specific instructions for proper care and maintenance. As part of any recommendations for good oral health, brushing and flossing after meals and visiting the dentist for regular check-ups are critical components.
